Hey, first I think I should adda bit of back history to kinda explain who I am and where I'm from:
I'm Matt , I'm 28 and from Surrey, England.
I was for a while Bloomsakura's supervisor at work and it was me unfortunately who introduced him to WoW.

I've being playing WoW now for about 2 years, I joined my first guild (The Maelstrom Order) with my "main" http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Sporeggar&n=Priestlycyd on the Sporeggar sever shortly after.
We as a guild built up a raid group of 20ish people that after some hard graft and time together got to the point that we were badge farming karazhan every Wednesday (and Saturday to finish the clearance), we then pressed onto Zul aman and although we never cleared it we did clear 2/3 bosses on a regular basis. 25 mans is where we struggled, we never had the dedicated bodies to get them off the ground successfully.

So thats my background, and I would like to share some of the things I learned while with TMO, to push my new guild and friends onto the next step.

Addons:

Deadly Boss Mods http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/deadly-boss-mods.aspx
frankly imho DBM is an absolute must.
It lists cooldowns and timers for all boss attacks and states in chat which party member is currently effected under a bosses debuff( makes debuff removal so much easier)
additionally, gives raid warnings for critical boss phases (stop attack, don't move, etc etc)

Omen threat meter http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/omen-threat-meter.aspx
Because you should know just when to cool that DPS a bit...otherwise your suddenly the tank!

Recount http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/recount.aspx
For me this is a tricky one, as it actively encourages DPS players to go out and try and out score each other, which is when problems threat wise will arise, BUT it is useful to see just who is slacking. Uber mage being out dps'ed by a protection warrior? then that mage really isn't focusing.

Preparation:

Raid instances are tuned to be harder than 5 mans, so for those involved in the raid need to bring some preparation to the group before they start.
Anything to give the group an edge!
Elixirs (Flasks, works though wipes) buff food, reagents, food and water, potions are all vital to a successful raid.
Most importantly, study the tactics involved in any boss encounters planned. I use wowwiki, but there are a lot of sites out there!

Patience! These things take time and practice.

and finally,

Have fun! Try and enjoy it, as ultimately thats why we play!

btw, I don't want anyone to think I'm undermining anyone with this post, I just want us to be successfully as we can be Very Happy

A character auditor, reviews your current (assuming the armoury is working, if not it uses a chache version) characters gear including gems and enchants and gives pointers on how they can be improved and where these (if gear) can be found.
Also gives a estimation on where a character with this gearing should preform comfortably in an raid / instance.
